Shawn Kemp Art
One-of-a-kind paper sculptures, designed and assembled by hand in my Bellingham studio. Drawn from the mathematics of nature. No prints. No reproductions. Just real art for real homes, at prices that won't make you flinch.
Every piece I make is unique. When it's gone, it's gone. No reprints, no second runs, no “limited editions of 500.” If you own it, you're the only person in the world who does.
The forms come from the mathematics of nature. Spirals, lattices, branching patterns. I compose each piece myself, cut it with precision laser technology, then hand-assemble every layer in my studio. The art is in the design and the building.
Original art that costs less than a nice dinner out. Not because it took less work, but because I think original art belongs in regular people's homes, not just in waiting rooms at law firms.
The natural world is mathematical. The spiral of a nautilus shell. The branching of a river. The tight geometry of a sunflower's seed head. These patterns aren't decoration. They're the structural logic underneath everything that grows.
I work with those geometries. Each piece starts as a composition I design, drawing on the same mathematics that nature has been running for millions of years. Once the form is finished, the paper is precision-cut, layer by layer. Then I take over. Every layer gets placed and glued by hand in my studio.
The result is dimensional. Twelve, sometimes more, layers of paper stacked into a sculpture you can hang on a wall. Light moves across it differently throughout the day. Shadows shift. The piece doesn't sit still.
That's the part technology can't do. The composing. The building. The choices.

In 2026, I'm donating 26 original one-of-a-kind artworks to charity galas and fundraising auctions. If you're organizing one for a worthy cause, I'd love to hear from you.
